Gardening has proved to be a a fun care home activity for many of our residents. It’s a good job as we have just built 4 new raised beds to make our residents enjoyment easier. After watching various Alan Titmarsh videos it was decided that the beds would have four different themes: Cut Flowers, Sensory Garden, Wild Flowers and finally a vegetable bed.
Research has shown that gardening is an extremely beneficial activity for older people, as it provides an enjoyable form of exercise for various reasons: increases physical activity, provides stimulation, increases social skills and aids flexibility and mobility. These are just some of the benefits and obviously our new raised beds enable some of our residents with physical restrictions to avoid bending and stooping
